| We appreciate your interest and want to help you achieve your goals in a safe
professional manner.
While either riding horses, handling horses, or just being around the barn, here
are some safety issues, and appropriate dress and equipment requirements.
- Tall well-fitted riding boots or paddock boots with half chaps. NO TENNIS SHOES
OR HIKING BOOTS! Be sure to clean and polish your boots before
each lesson or ride.
- Approved safety riding helmet with chinstrap secured while mounted on the horse
is required. No bicycle helmets. Secure your hair and tuck neatly
under the helmet. When purchasing your helmet be sure to have
it fitted with your hair completely under the helmet and the
front in the middle of your forehead. It is very unattractive
and distracting to have hair blowing around your face or helmet.
- Purchase your own riding crop to bring to your lessons. Remove any wrist strap
for safety. When trainer suggests, you will need spurs with leather
straps. Ask the trainer what size spur. They vary in length.
- No bulky or skimpy tops. Well fitted breeches and shirts (tucked in if needed)
are required. It is very difficult for the trainer to critique
your equitation with loose fitting un-tucked, t-shirts or tops,
blowing around.
- No loose fitting jewelry or dangling earrings.
- Take the time to look neat and professional at all times. It
reflects on your horsemanship and details are a must for this
sport!
- NO LOOSE VISITING DOGS.
- Never tie a horse to a moveable or breakable object, such as
fence boards, stall doors, gates, etc. Always tie horses in cross
ties or to a strong Post that can withstand pressure without breaking.
If you are not using cross ties, learn to use a "Quick Release"
knot for single tying.
- When bringing guests to Los Lagos, it is your responsibility
to have them sign a release from liability form located by the
tack room area in the main barn. Any child under the age of 6
must be under the supervision of an adult at all times.
- Never come to the barn with sandals or open toed shoes. It is recommended that
you wear boots at all times while handling or being near horses.
Absolutely NO BARE FEET in or around the Stable.
- During summer months, bring plenty of water but be careful not to drink out of
containers with noisy ice while near or mounted on a horse! It
may terrify the horse and cause an accident. The water at the
Equestrian Center is Roseville city water so it is all drinkable.
- While driving in or around the facility, please go slowly and carefully for safety.
